Wela Kapela Productions proudly presents BRENDA AND I, a compelling new cabaret that follows Kwesi —who has spent years performing Brenda Fassie covers — as she confronts the question that has haunted her life: Who is she without Brenda?
BRENDA AND I is set on the evening of Kwesi’s 38th birthday. In just over an hour, Dikelo Mamiala with Snalithemba Nkambule on piano takes the audiences on an emotionally charged journey through Kwesi’s life story.
Armed with sixteen unforgettable songs, the production explores the reality of living in South Africa today. It is ultimately a story about self-discovery, reinvention, and artistic courage.
BRENDA AND I celebrate Fassie not as an imitation to be copied, but as a revolutionary force who inspired generations of performers to dream bigger, live louder, and refuse to apologise for their truth.
